So if the guy interviews he can say he is available 4/1 but can start earlier if need be, then he has a decision on to take a new job and forgo the 25k or stay and get the 25k and not get a new job as quickly. But it takes some time to crank up a job search and the hiring process is usually not that fast so my guess is his timing will work out. Severance is nice, of the employers I have had the most I ever got was a month or so of salary
